Typically, Alkaline water is made from unfiltered or lightly filtered tap water, which leaves behind Fluoride and many other harmful chemicals & pharmaceuticals. Then the pH is simply raised by adding Calcium and/or Magnesium. The Calcium & Magnesium powder used in this method are not in nano/ionic form, which renders the particles too large to pass through cell walls, leaving little to no benefit of having these minerals in the water.
